Hello everyone! Thanks for your emails and letters and support. I love
you guys. This week was good. We taught several people, no one new this past week. Not a ton to report. It rained a lot. We met with several leaders in the new Stake and hope to get some more investigators in it soon. I got a bike, so as soon as it stops raining we will be biking. We have played ball every morning still this transfer. We got some good ice cream today and played basketball for p-day. The mission is good. I hope you all are doing well. Here is a picture of my companion who apparently collects one dollar bills.

Hello everyone! Today was a great p-day. We went shopping early and
were able to relax a little and then we had our activity. We played some sort of game I have no idea what it's called, but it was with like pvc pipes covering in padding/foam and that was the first half. Second half we played a mix of ultimate frisbee and basketball and soccer, we call it speedball. There was another rugby played on my team and we just passed it back and forth a couple times all the way down the court and scored it was pretty fun haha. This past week was fantastic! We had a new Ward Mission Leader called in one of our 17 wards and he is going to be amazing! We watched General Conference and even got to see the Sunday Afternoon session live with a couple that have recently begun to be active again within the past few months. I loved Presidents Utchdorfs talk from Priesthood session where he talked about the sons of thunder. What made the weekend even more special was the new Easter initiative called Prince of Peace. Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is the Prince of Peace. There is a short, a little longer than two minute, video that talks about how we can find peace through our Savior Jesus Christ. Then there are eight other videos, roughly the same length, that highlight some principles of peace. I would invite you all to watch these videos and apply some of the principles in your life to help you better find peace through Jesus Christ. These videos can be found on Mormon.org or LDS.org. I know that God loves us, and because He loves us He sent His only begotten Son, so that we can return to live with Him again. Thanks so much for all of your love and support. For those of you on spring break, I hope you have a great time! I love you all! -Elder Shanklin Hello! I have an awesome experience that I forgot to share with you last week. So I was on exchanges with Elder Franco, and we were driving to a house we had planned to go to and he felt a strong impression to go left when the gps told him to go right. So we were driving and saw this guys sitting out on the stairs to his front door having a smoke. So we parked the car and we were going to go talk to him, but he had went inside and we saw some people moving in and so we helped them really quick. Then we were about to get back in the car and we stopped and we both asked should we go knock on the door of the house where we saw that guy smoking? And we both felt like we should. So we knocked on the door and this Hispanic lady answered and we got to know her for a few minutes and then her boyfriend(the guy we saw smoking) came out and we transitioned to more of a religious conversation and the lady who originally answered the door eventually shared how she had prayed to God the night before for help in her family situation and we shared with her how we believed that we came as an answer that prayer, to share the Book of Mormon with her and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We then had to leave and so we got their info and sent it to the people that covered the area that they live in. Anyway it was a really cool experience to be a direct answer to someone's prayers and hopefully their family situation improves. Yesterday Elder Child and I both gave talks on peace. Peace no matter the circumstance, even peace during war or chaos. This peace, true inner peace, comes from Christ. My favorite talk I came across while studying for this talk was Peace - A Triumph of Principles by Marvin J. Ashton in the October 1985 General Conference. I would strongly encourage reading over this talk, it has helped me out a lot. We are getting so close to teaching more people, our area is getting there, miracles are all around. I love you guys!
Hello friends and family! Today was a good day. We did our laundry, shot each other with nerf guns and went shopping! Then we had our p-day activity with the rest of the Elders in the zone. We played some chair soccer, where you set up chairs in a circle on the gym and then you have a designated chair, you don't let the soccer ball hit that chair and you make the soccer ball hit everyone else's chairs to win. We played three times. I got out pretty quick the first two games, and got second in the last game. Then we played speedball which is kinda like ultimate except you use a volleyball and score by putting it in the basketball hoop with a few other minor rules in there. Then we finished with some basketball. So to tell you a little more about our new Stake, it's massive. It starts on flat ground but goes up to the mountain and surrounds the Bountiful Temple. The high-councilman and Ward Mission Leaders in the stake are fantastic and lead the missionary work in their stake by example. We have some appointments with investigators in this new Stake soon and I will let y'all know how they go. In Bountiful South Stake, a miracle happened this last week! So we have been trying to meet this 12yr old that the Bishop of his ward has described as a "dry Mormon" meaning he is basically already Mormon he just needs to be baptized to make it official. We had been trying to meet this 12yr old for about a month and it just wasn't working out so we asked out Leaders and they said just leave the situation alone for a week and then come back to it. So that's what we did. Two days after the week was up we met the 12yr old right as we were walking out of a church building and on our way to an appointment. So we have an appointment with him scheduled for this Saturday! I'm so pumped to get to know this kid! There are miracles all around in our lives and if we follow the Spirit and listen to our leaders, we will be blessed to recognize those miracles. I love you all!!
Hello everyone! This week was awesome! We met all the investigators that we inherited in the new Stake that we cover now. They are awesome! There is a 70yr old guy names Mike and he came to church! However he didn't stay for all three hours so hopefully we can help him change that. We met a mom with three children who are 12 10 and 8 and none of them are baptized and we will be teaching them on Thursday. We also taught a kid named Jessie and he is 12 and his best friend has been bringing him to church on and off for the past three months. He didn't make it to church yesterday and we don't know why, but we are going to see him tonight so we will ask him then. There is another guy who is very happily married to a member and has been coming to church for the past couple years that they have been married. They were super fun to talk to and the time just flew by so we will have more of a discussion with them next time. That's most of the people, so hopefully we keep adding more people to our teaching pool and I will keep y'all posted on the people we teach. Today was p-day and we played soccer and football outside. It was awesome! I threw a touchdown, caught a few TD's and unfortunately threw a couple picks, but I also got 4 picks so that made up for it. We are going to go on splits with a Priest almost every night this coming week, so that should be a blast! I gave a talk on Sunday and talked about Missionary Work :) The basis for my talk was "More than a half-mile victory" by Bishop Vaughn J. Featherstone in November 1974. I love this gospel! I know it is true, I know that Jesus is the Christ, that He thought me worthy of His blood, and that the power of the Atonement is real. I would encourage all of you to read "More than a half-mile victory", it is a great read. I love you guys!
Hello friends and family! Thanks for all your emails and letters and support it means more than I can express. Today we went to a park for our p-day activity and played soccer for a long time. Not my best sport, far from it actually, but it was fun, I got a goal and a couple saves and a great workout so I'm happy :) I threw the football a little and this morning the Elders in our zone played basketball. My companion and I have played basketball every morning this transfer, so since the first of March and it really helps with having energy for the day. I bought some life and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereals this morning, I haven't had cereal on my mission yet, and I was hungry when I went shopping which was a mistake because I made a bunch of impulse buys. This week we started teaching a lady with her four year old daughter. She is divorced and originally from Peru. She has lived in the States for ten years. She came to church and she says that she believes that Joseph Smith was a prophet which is awesome! We hope we can help her become happy through our invitations to her to come unto Christ by helping her receive the restored Gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, Repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. She rarely has a smile or happy expression on her face and it is really sad, she has the funniest little girl in the world and is close with her mother and has so much to be happy about. She has a Heavenly Father who loves her. So do we all, God is our Father and He loves us on a personal level. Everything comes back to that, we are here because God loves us and wants us to be as happy as he is. Because He wants us to have that joy, He presented a plan for us to come to earth, receive a body and gain experience. All of us accepted that plan and chose to come here to earth. God knew that as part of gaining experience, that we would sin and because of that He provided a Savior. That Savior is Jesus Christ. I love my Savior and I love my Father in Heaven. One last thought. We said family prayers with an awesome family in the Stake that we have been serving in since the first of March. When they have family prayer, all the kids say a prayer and then one of the parents say the last one. Well they have a two year old who said the first prayer. He said "Heavenly Father, you da best, amen" it was the cutest thing ever. Recently I've tried to be more thankful for things that God gives me, specifically answers to prayers. Today we were outside for p-day like I mentioned earlier. It started to drizzle while we were praying. So I said a silent prayer that it would stop and it did. A couple minutes later it came back and I said another silent prayer that it would stop and it did. A couple minutes later the rain came back again. I said one more silent prayer and as I closed it stopped again. I then said one more prayer, thanking Heavenly Father for stopping the rain. The sun came out a few minutes later and stayed sunny the rest of the activity. Some may say that that's just coincidence or write it off as "Utah Weather" but I know that God answered my prayers. And I know he answers everyone prayers. I love you all so much!

Hello! Sorry for not emailing last week that was my fault. I need to make this group email a priority. Thanks to all of you that email me, I love you guys. So we found out about transfers this week. Elder Child and I will be staying in the same area, but we will now also be covering the Bountiful Central Stake as well as the Bountiful South Stake, the latter of which I have served in for the past 4 and 1/2 months. It'll be nice to meet some new people and hopefully have some more work in this new Stake. So sometimes when Elder Child and I are walking we kick small rocks and try and get them in between each other's legs. This is would be called a nutmeg in soccer. So we were doing this earlier this week and he gives a soft little shout. I'm like "what"? Then he's just like "I kicked poop!" I laughed way harder than I should've because it wasn't that funny, but I thought it was. Yesterday was a good day. We participated in a Bishops Youth Discussion, as kind of a panel of missionaries. Then we taught a lesson on the awesome talk from last Conference Fourth Floor, Last Door by President Uchtdorf. Today we are playing broom hockey as a zone which should be a blast. We went to Mission Prep and role played a district meeting with the youth. We have been going on splits with the Priests a lot more than my first three months and that has been fun. I'm grateful for the missionaries that went on splits with me and built my desire to go on a mission. I love you guys!
He is the only one in a jacket. heh.
That's the Mount Timpanogos temple. I go there all the time. -Bob |
